Has anyone been to Veg Out Time on Chapel St recently and can confirm that they are still there? Google Maps only tells of the one in St.Kilda which worries me as I would like to take a friend to lunch on Chapel St tomorrow.

Failing that, suggestions for good alfresco vegan eats on Chapel St greatly appreciated.

Muchos gracias.

Veg Out Time is still there! Had the nomtastic pumpkin curry. Don't know why it's not on Google maps though. Those guys need a website or something. As if you would make your potential customers CALL you on the TELEPHONE. What is this? The '90s?

Hi folks,

Strange request I know but...

Im wondering if anyone is, or knows of, a baker/cater who could make a fancy vegan cake (or possibly gingerbread) in the shape of a house for the launch of a project that i have been working on?

If anyone has any ideas please feel free to contact me here or at: ash AT ahag DOT org DOT au

Cheers,

Ash
10th-Jul-2009 09:02 pm - Yo' momma was acquired by Woolworths.

http://www.ausfoodnews.com.au/2009/06/17/accc-gives-all-clear-to-woolworths-thomas-dux-expansion-plans.html

Australia’s competition watchdog has today advised that it will not oppose the acquisition of organic supermarket operator Macro Wholefoods by Australia’s largest supermarket operator, Woolworths.

Woolworths announced the proposed takeover of Macro last month and plans to turn all Macro stores into outlets of their upmarket grocery subsidiary - Thomas Dux*. They will also acquire ownership of the Macro Organic private label brand.

...

“Organic products are only a small component of the range in Thomas Dux stores and make up less than one per cent of sales in Woolworths’ full-range supermarkets; their closest competitors are other supermarkets,” acting ACCC Chairman, Mr Peter Kell, explained.”In contrast, Macro focuses almost entirely on organic products. It is less competitive on price, instead emphasising range, quality, service, location and convenience. The ACCC’s extensive inquiries found Macro’s closest competitors to be smaller, independent retailers with a similar focus. These competitors will remain in the market after the acquisition, continuing to provide consumers with choice.”

* The Thomas Dux Grocer store format was first introduced last year by Woolworths to compete with the proliferation of upmarket grocers. There are currently two in operation, with the outlets smaller than the retailer’s conventional supermarkets and offering more premium groceries.

I am looking for volunteers to run workshops and discussions at a DIY festival in Melbourne in May/June 2009. We hope to keep the costs for those attending to a minimum, however tutors are welcome to charge a materials fee for each workshop.

So far we have volunteers signed up for workshops in:
Firetwirling
Drawing
Sustainable gardening
Crochet your own hackey sack
Build your own computer/recycle and old one
Badge Making
and Zine Making
We are looking for many more...

Examples of other possible workshops/discussions might include:
How to fix your bike
Everything you need to know about dumpster diving
Homebrewing 101
Screen printing
How to make and design patterns
Make your own paper
how to make a straitjacket
Yummy Yummy! Recipe Exchange
How to Juggle and other amazing circus tricks
insert your own ideas here...

The benefits of volunteering are free entry to the event, the opportunity to have a table at a zine/craft/etc. fair part of the event for free, meeting new people that share your interest, feeling good and being made of pure awesome!

You do not need to be of high status, well renowned or hold some sort of medal in order to run a workshop.. all you need to do is have something that you are interested in and would like to share with others!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Louise.

hi folks,

if this isnt ok for me to post here then please let me know and ill delete it!

just wanted to put the word out there that me and holden (my 6 year old sweet lil black dog) are looking for a housemate to share our three bedroom home (its a pretty nice place with a shared study, separate kitchen and lounge, front yard and medium sized coutyard with a vege patch) in seddon/yarraville (rent $130 pw plus shared bills) - we're 10mins walk to seddon and west footscray train stations (so two train lines), 14mins train ride to flinders street, 5km to the city, close to both seddon and yarraville shops and cafes etc.

i am looking for someone queer/trans friendly, easy going, house trained, stable, veg*n or mainly veg*n, someone into communal food and shopping etc, someone who's life isnt only about getting boozy etc but still knows how to have fun.

so if you or anyone you know is interested, lets chat some!

cheers,
ash
